Ducks Unlimited Funding

May 19, 2016.  The District awarded $8,000 to Ducks Unlimited to restore 80 acres of marginal cropland back into perennial grassland species in Beadle County.  The 80 acres of cropland to be restored to perennial greases is directly adjacent to nearly 1 mile of a tributary to the James River.  The project site is located on marginal cropland having steep slopes prone to severe erosion into the stream which flows in the James River.  The upland area improvements on this property will provide erosion control on the steep slopes creating approximately 1 mile of grassland buffer.

May 19, 2016.  The District awarded $10,750 to Ducks Unlimited to restoring grassland and wetland habitat on land in Beadle County.  This property has three degraded wetlands totaling 16 acres draining directly into Pearl Creek that are currently being farmed.  This project would restore these wetlands and 40 acres of adjacent grassland and potentially protect the restored wetlands with a 30 year agreement.
