September 13, 2018. The James River Water Development District awarded $86,000 to City of Yankton for engineering and bank stabilization on Marne Creek. High water flows and heavy rains over the last couple of years have caused a significant amount of erosion on the banks of Marne Creek near the Burleigh Street Bridge. This project will restore the bank, protect the City nature area and bridge structure and minimize erosion. The high-water flows and heavy rains have also caused significant erosion on the banks of Marne Creek near the Highway 50 bridge. The erosion in this area has degraded the channel and exposed an underground water main crossing. This project will allow the City to remove and replace the existing exposed water main crossing.
